Throughout my service in Congress, I have remained committed to improving access to affordable and quality healthcare. In the 111th Congress, I have supported legislation to stem the rising tide of the health care costs, implement important reforms that prevent insurers from discriminating against persons with pre-existing conditions and expand access to affordable, quality health care to nearly every American. I want to ensure that people, not insurance companies, are in charge of their own care.
Having served as the third most senior Member of Congress on the Energy and Commerce Committee until I became Chair of the Oversight Committee, I have supported innovation, medical research and health information technology.
As a legislator and as a former social worker, I have made addresing health disparities a top priority. That's why I have continued to fight for additional research dollars for breast cancer, prostate cancer, mental health, diabetes, asthma, obesity, HIV/AIDs, cardiovascular conditions, Alzheimer's disease and many health conditions.
